remains of the Okpara-Uku of Udomi Quarters Abavo in Ika South Local
Government Area of Delta State, Pa. Thomas Igheghe who died in December,
2015 is still embalmed in his home in Abavo pending when his first
grandson, Augustine Ijeoma fulfilled the required burial rites.
According
to a source in the community, it is a traditional demand of "our people
that when the Okpara-Uku dies that his first grandson have to give his
three fingers out which will be buried alongside with the remains of his
grang father .
. “It is a tradition we grew up to
meet. The case of Augustin Ijeoma is now different as upon conviction
he refused to allow his three fingers chopped off for the burial of his
grandfather, Okpara-Uku Thomas Igheghe. Even as he has gone into hiding
for his dear life, the remains of his grandfather still lie in their
home”.
The
source further revealed that the elders of Udomi Community in Abavo had
promise handsome reward for whoever gives them information on the
Whereabouts of Augustin Ijeoma owing to the fact that the community
chief priest has revealed that the soul of Thomas Igheghe is crying for
interment and that failure to lay his remains to rest will incur wrath
upon them.
