Devoutees
of Idumu Udele Community Deity in Agbor, Delta State have declared
one, Amokwu Ndidi, the son of their late Chief Priest, Amokwu Dibie
wanted for his refusal to serve the deity.
According
to a source in the community, Udele Chief Priestly position is
hereditary and strictly for the Amokwu family. With the death of Amokwu
Dibie in early February, 2015, his first son, Amokwu Ndidi is the
rightful person to occupy the vacant stool as the tradition demands. But
the unexpected happened when Amokwu Ndidi refused to succeed his father
because of his Christian faith. It was believed that Amokwu Ndidi who
is 20-years old is afraid to die since his late father died 10-years
after he took over the role of Udele Chief Priesthood just like his
father and forefathers. This according to source also led to Amokwu Ndidi
refusal to accept the offer and has vowed never to worship any other
god but Jesus Christ the giver of life.
Amokwu
Ndidi refusal put him at loggerheads with other devoutees of the deity
and community elders who consequently declared him wanted after which he
escaped from the Udele deity forest where he was passing through the
process of initiation four days after in July, 2015, saying he must come
to face the consequences of his action. The occasioned troubles over
the whereabouts of Amokwu Ndidi led to the death of his mother, Amokwu
Margaret.
A concerned indigene of the community,
who did not want his name to be mentioned, condemned the act, saying,
“It is time such harmful traditions are abolished, wondering why in our
country people should be enslaved to the will of the gods and goddesses
of the land”.
For the fact that history have it
that the Idumu Udele Community are made of vampires, the security
agencies do not enter the community as those who made attempts in the
past never returned.
