But the unexpected happened when Amokwu Ndidi refused to succeed his father because of his Christian faith. It was believed that  Amokwu Ndidi who is  20-years old is afraid to die since his late father died 10-years after he took over the role of Udele Chief Priesthood just like his father and forefathers. This according to source also led to Amokwu Ndidi refusal to accept the offer and has vowed never to worship any other god but Jesus Christ the giver of life.

AMOKWU NDIDI
Amokwu Ndidi refusal put him at loggerheads with other devoutees of the deity and community elders who consequently declared him wanted after which he escaped from the Udele deity forest where he was passing through the process of initiation four days after in July, 2015, saying he must come to face the consequences of his action. It was reported that the deceased was relaxing and having fun at the bar on Sunday, January 17, 2016 with his same sex partner when they were attacked by a group of six heavily armed young men.
The two same sex partners where alleged to be involved in homosexuality; a crime punishable by law and regarded as an abomination both by the religious sect and traditionalists as a slight on their cultural heritage and faith.
Our reporters gathered from a reliable source that the same sex partners (Sunday Okeke and Monday Odigwe) drew attention and suspicion of the youths of the community in what was called an abomination. According to him, “as the suspicion grew, people continued monitoring them until their suspicion appeared to be true. On several occasions, the two same sex partners were caught in the act of sexual contact, they were beaten, tortured. It was recorded that each of these times Mr. Monday and his partner, Sunday Okeke had denied any wrong doings against the law of the land and the same sex partners labelled it to be mere suspicion and jealousy. Due to the alleged violation of the laws that govern the land, the youths and some members of the community planned to kill them but fortunately, Mr. Monday was said to have escaped and as it stood, the youths had vowed to eliminate him once found.
According to some members of the victim’s family, the torture and killings never stopped despite so many reports made to the authority. In fact, some of the victim's family members reported that the police were not helping matters instead they allowed the torture and killings to continue by handing the victims back to the community for Judgement. Our reporter secretly interviewed one of the victim’s sister, Mary Okeke. she explained that some prominent people in high authority, who are the makers of the laws, including some top police officers were aiding the onslaught against the victim. Our source gathered that any form of act like gay or anyone caught in the act of having affairs with the same sex must be punished according to Nigerian law (Prohibition) Act, 2013 (SSMPA). Meanwhile, it was recalled in November 2015 that the Delta State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 21 students from two state owned polytechnics for allegedly indulging in same sex activities.

In spite of all these allegations, Mr Akintunde, (Assistant Superintendent of Police) promised to leave no stone unturned in the search of Mr. Monday Odigwe and bring to justice the killers of Mr Sunday. But most victims’ family members and some of the community members who were against the act of torturing and killing of the same sex partners secretly told our reporter that they believed Mr. Monday’s case would end up the same way, like other victims in the past. If found, he would be tortured and killed.

Youths abscond over refusal to worship olokun deity

Several youths of Owa-Oyibu, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, has absconded from their town, as their refusal to worship the Olokun deity believed to be the god of the community, will attract severe consequences on them.
It was revealed from investigations that in Owa-Oyibucommunity, the worship of the Olokun deity, a water goddess, is hereditary by nature. This means that when a father who is a devotee dies, his first son automatically takes over the worship of the Olokun deity.
According several findings and report, such practice will remain in such family from generation to generation.
Based on the above, Ika Weekly reporters gathered that the young man who was said to have absconded from the community to an unknown destination, was expected by the entire members of the town to take over the worshipping of the Olokun deity from his late father, after he must have been initiated and installed as the new Chief Priest by the community Elders in Council.
It was also discovered that any first son who refuses to serve and worship the deity, are usually killed by members of the Elders in council, who are highly respected and seen as the custodians of the people’s culture and tradition; and the blood of such a person is used to appease the gods.
Information also has it, that the reason why several youths of Owa-Oyibu community run away from the town is because of the archaic custom and tradition of the land. It was also gathered that whenever the elders discoverthe whereabouts of a fleeing defaulter, they will trace him to his hideout and bring him back to the community to face the penalty of their offences.
According to a source who spoke to the reporters, disclosed that the adherence to their tradition is stronger than government policy, hence majority of the Ika people are afraid of allowing their male children to live in the rural communities.
Conclusively, the pressmen also gathered that any defaulter that runs away from the community, over refusal to worship and bow down for the Olokun deity, is usually sacrificed to the gods anytime he returns to the community or caught in his hideout.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

I have found power in the mysteries of thought. EURIPIDES 438 B.C.
Thus only can you gain the secret isolated joy of the thinker, who knows that, a hundred years after he is dead and forgotten, men who never heard of him will be moving to the measure of his thoughtthe subtle rapture of a postponed power, which the world knows not because it has no external trappings, but which to his prophetic vision is more real than that which commands an army. OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, JR 1886

When people say to me: “How do you do so many things?” I often answer them, without  meaning to be cruel: “How do you do so little?” It seems to me that people have vast potential. Most people can do extraordinary things if they have the confidence or take the risks. Yet most people don't. They sit in front of the telly and  treat life as if it goes on forever

Two dead, many injured as politicians unleashed terror

PUBLISHED: SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 2015
by Patrick Enudi

The quiet and peaceful town of Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area,Delta State has been on the news recently, following a serious clash among political leaders in the area over supremacy battle as the 2015 general elections approach. The development unfortunately, has turned the area into a war zone as not less than two persons have dropped dead with many seriously injured. The sad incident started in the first week of March,2015
The victims,a husband and wife both from the popular Edike family at the Orogodo area of Agbor, our reporters reliably gathered were in their home the day the unexpected happened.
One of the children of the deceased,Jacob Edike,a vibrant youth leader in the area was said to be the target of the blood thirsty politicians. He narrowly escaped from the thugs sent to attack him.Unfortunately, his parents were not lucky as they were trapped and killed.
Jacob Edike according to report from the area refused to play along with the politicians whose stock in trade is to win elections at all cost. The situation which was almost the same in each election year was described as a bad omen  as the number of injured persons were more than ten as two were sent to early grave. Many residential buildings and other valuables were lost during the period. When our reporters visited the area nearly all the residents have ran for their lives.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the State Celestina Kalu confirmed the report, assuring that the perpetrators must be brought to book
Efforts to reach Jacob Edike to hear from his own side of the story was not successful as he has said to have disappeared out of the town to avoid being killed by the angry politicians.A source close to the family in confidence told our reporters that Jacob Edike has left town but relocated his family to Asaba. Most of the residents who spoke completley condemned the act, calling on security agencies to make all those behind the dastardly act face the wrath of the law.One of the political leaders who spoke briefly to newsmen   disclosed that Jacob Edike was their target and that they will not stop chasing after him until he mobilizes youths in the area to cast their votes for their choice candidates who according to him has the interest of the town at heart.
