AN octogenarian has been reportedly killed in his farm at Abavo community, Ika South local government area of Delta State, Nigeria while two other farmers were abducted.

Report reaching The Townhall stated that the dastardly act was carried out by herdsmen along the corridors of the Railway line Okpe quarters, Abavo.

A close family source gave the identity of the octogenarian reportedly killed as Elder Francis Amamosa, who was said to be the pioneer Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP Ward 10 in Abavo.

According to the source, “the octogenarian politician and community leader was attacked and killed earlier today (Monday) by herdsmen who took over his farm and attempted to kidnap him along with two other farmers.

“He was said to have resisted the kidnappers and questioned their audacity to order him out of his farm following which the herdsmen immediately shot him several times. But when they discovered that the bullets failed to penetrate his body they resorted to the use of machete to inflict deadly cuts on him leading to bleeding to death”.

“Two other farmers within the vicinity were abducted by the herders in the process. As I speak to you the remains of late elder Francis Amamosa has been deposited at the mortuary while the matter has been reported at the Abavo Police Division.

A similar report from the area indicated that a middle aged man was also killed in similar circumstance in Abavo Community last Friday when herdsmen invaded his farm too.
last week.

Recall that The Townhall ran a story two days ago where Citizen Ferdinand Iweriebor raised alarm over the incessant attacks by herdsmen which has caused many of the farmers to abandon their farmlands for fear of being killed.

Ferdinand Iweriebor of
Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of Delta, Agbor was quoted saying that “presently, half of Abavo, my homeland, Ute as whole, Ekuku-Agbor, Idumuesa and even part of Agbor metropolis – after Ika Grammar school down to across Express by Untouchable Church are all RED zones”.
