Delta State Government Offers Reward for Information on the Whereabouts of Ugwu John Ifeanyi, Son of Late Ugwu Mellitus, Leader of Proscribed Biafra Group

Ugwu John Ifeanyi, the son of late Biafra leader Ugwu Mellitus, is on the run as the Delta State government intensifies its search. Ifeanyi, the only child of the deceased agitator, faces serious risks and an uncertain future as he seeks safety amidst a nationwide



The Biafra group, which advocates for freedom and self-determination, has long been seen as a threat by the Nigerian and Delta State government. On December 19, 2023, tragedy struck when the Nigerian military attacked the group, resulting in the death of Ugwu Mellitus, a key figure in the movement.



After the attack, the government conducted an investigation and found that several members of Ugwu Mellitus' family, including his only son, Ugwu John Ifeanyi, were registered members of the proscribed group. In response, the government handed over Ugwu Mellitus' body to the community for a proper burial, after several appeals by his grieving community members.


However, due to increasing tensions and the government's determination to suppress opposition, Ugwu John Ifeanyi was forced to flee for his life. The federal government has offered a reward of $10, 000, 000 (ten million dollars) for anyone with information about his location.
