POLICE OFFICER MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD OVER DEMOLITION OF BOJI-BOJI PLANK SHADE, AS GOVERNMENT DECLARES ONOBE LUCKY, KELVIN OKOH, THREE OTHERS WANTED
In line with the directive of His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi A. Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, who gave the 25 Local Government Council Chairmen in the State a matching order to demolish all the illegal structures in their respective domains with immediate effect, the Executive Chairman, Ika North-East Local Government Council, Hon. Barr. Victor Eghen Ebonka has demolished the Boji-Boji Owa Plank Shade.
Ika Weekly Newspaper Reporter who visited the scene of the incident on Wednesday, October 17 2022, learnt that there was a big fight between the Local Government Council officers and the Plank Shade Union members few hours after the demolition of all structures n the Plank Shade.
It was also gathered that one of the Police Officers from Owa-Oyibu Police Divisional Head Quarter was killed. His name is CSP Augustine Mekwuye, an indigene of Otolokpo Community.
Speaking with the reporter, Chairman of the Boji-Boji Owa Plank Shade Union, Mr. David Okocha, described the death of ASP Augustine Mekwuye as an unfortunate incident.
He stated that the trouble started when the Local Government Council Officers came with a Peloder and started destroying their shops without notifying them.
He mentioned that the State Government did give them enough time to relocate their properties to somewhere else, saying that they were given just three days to quit the business environment.
According to him," We have been doing our business there for the past thirty years and since then, nobody has ever come to disturb us.
" The Police man was killed by my fellow traders during the crisis while trying to arrest one of my men, Onobe Lukcy," he stated.
In brief remark, the Divisional Police Officer, Owa-Oyibu Police Divisional Head Quarter, Mr. Monday Osayi, while addressing newsmen, stated that an order has given to him and other security agents to announce that Onobe Lukcy, (age,35 years) and four others who include; Mr. Kelvin Okoh Aka, De Plank Dealer, (age, 28 years), Mr. Nonso Morka, (age, 32 years), Mr. John Alika, (age, 37 years) and Mr. Chukwuma Iweka, (age, 40 years) for being responsible for the death of ASP Augustine Mekwuye.
The D.P.O disclosed that each of the wanted persons will be used as deterrent to others by facing life imprisonment whenever they are apprehended.
He therefore advised the general or anyone that knows the whereabouts of the wanted persons, to report immediately to the nearby Police Station, as a ransom of Two Million Naira, (#2,000,000:00) is awaiting anyone that can help the Police with the information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the lifeless body of ASP Augustine Mekwuye has been deposited in the Mortuary for further arrest and investigations by the Police.
