Nigeria has an influential Christian evangelical movement in the south and strong support for Islamic law in the North both of which oppose homosexuality since Nigeria passed a law criminalizing same sex marriage and gay organizations in 2013, Law Enforcement Agencies have tracked down people suspected of homosexuality.
However, arrests are infrequent as homosexual people like  the case of Oseghale Monday and John.
Oseghale Monday

Gay people live in fear and cannot openly express their sexual orientation they are not protected by any law so they face discrimination.
The case of Oseghale Monday is a serious case because Northern State under sharia Islamic religious law have the death penalty for people convicted of same sex hence which in other State carry 14 years jail term.

His mission is to stop such practice in his domain and he is beating his chest that he has achieved exactly that:- for me there is no hiding place for those indulging sexual perversion with the State. The traditional institution and security agencies are determined to deal with such perverts.

A senior female police officer who allegedly aided the escape of suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, from police detention after he was arrested for armed robbery in 2006, has been arrested.

The Nation reveals that the identity of the officer who is now a Chief Superintendent of Police [CSP], identified only as Tina, was uncovered by a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) set up by  Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, to probe Evans’ 2006 arrest, transfer from Lagos State to Imo State and eventual release from detention without prosecution.

Recall that after Evans arrest on June 10, 2017, a senior police officer had told reporters that his team had arrested the suspect in 2006 following a bank robbery but was later transferred to the Imo State Police Command following the intervention of a female officer who claimed Evans was her brother.
The officer had claimed that Evans and his gang members had a gun duel at the National Theatre in Surulere, Lagos, after a disagreement in sharing their loot and he was shot by his gang members and left to die before he was arrested.
According to the officer, Tina who was then a Superintendent of Police (SP), mounted pressure on them to release Evans and two of his members but when her request was not met, she went through Imo State Command, where a signal was sent for the transfer of the suspects.
Following the revelations by the officer, IGP Idris constituted the panel to investigate the 2006 arrest, transfer and eventual release of Evans and his members and bring to book the officers involved in the sordid affair.
The panel's mandate was to identify all the officers who had a hand in the matter, whether serving or retired and bring them to justice.
According to a source, the panel has made reasonable progress in its investigation because almost all the officers that took part in the 'rape' of justice have been identified.

The source said:
“I can tell you that Tina is not the woman’s real name but I won’t give you her name. I can also tell you she’s now a CSP and still in service.
So many officers took part in that 2006/2007 release of Evans and they are being investigated. The panel has made progress and almost all of them have been identified. An official statement might be released by the authorities soon.

The image maker of the Nigeria police force in Benin City also confirmed that both brothers has been in the act for a very long time and since the bill which contains penalties of up to 14 years in prison and bans Gay marriage.           According to the police public relation officer MR Lai Mohammed, he said it is against our constitution unlike the European countries most recently France have more to offer same sex couples the same legal rights enjoyed by hetero sexual, many African countries are seeking to tighten laws against homosexuality. Britain and some other western countries have threatened to cut aid to government that pass laws persecuting homosexuals, a threat that has helped hold back or scupper such legislation in aid-dependent Nations like Uganda and Malawi.
But they have little leverage over Nigeria, whose budget is found by its 2 million barrels per day oil output. So they must be punished for such act.
Nigeria law reflects a highly religious and conservative society that considers homosexuality a deviation.
Nigeria is one of the 38 African countries about 70% (percent) of the continent that have laws persecuting Gay people, according to Amnesty International.

While gestures like distribution of rice by politicians are not uncommon in Nigeria, what stands out in this particular case was the sincerity of the action which is reflected in the ordinariness of the whole event by seeing the Minority leader himself sweating and lifting bags of rice, supervising to make sure every family got something with no security cordon around him. It was refreshing seeing the quintessential Chuky dandy in simple striped purple shirt and jeans physically serving his people.
