A 26 year old Coordinator of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and native of Owa-Alero Community in Ika Northeast Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Ulakpa Monday, on Wednesday, 10th of December, 2014 ran for his dear life, as the Nigerian Government ordered the arrest and killing of all bonafide members of IPOB in the South-Eastern Region who engaged in the bloody protest and gun battle with the Nigerian Soldiers.
Speaking with Ika Weekly Newspaper Reporters during an interview, an IPOB Commander, Mr. Ojirahi Michael, stated that IPOB as a formidable group, was founded in the year 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu, an Igbo born British Political Activist to ensure his people's freedom and Independence from the hands Nigerian Government.
Speaking further, he also said that IPOB is a very strong socio-cultural and political group, operating in the South-East of Nigeria, for the advocacy of secession from the federation of Nigeria. He said that the group had on several occasions, expressed strong terms through protests and other forms of peaceful agitations of their desires which is to separate themselves from the leadership Nigerian Government and be governed Independently by the Indigenous citizens from their region.
In addition, he stated that over the years, Nigerian Government has been carrying out strong measures of reprisal against the biafrans, having perceived the protesters and the various activities they carry out as subversive and dangerous to the growth, unity and peaceful coexistence of the country.
According to him," On that fateful day, myself as one of the zonal leader of IPOB and other IPOB supporters across the South-East region were on a peaceful demonstration when a battalion of the Nigerian Soldiers arrived and suddenly open fire on us, killing over forty five persons. Many of us managed to escape while some of us who could not escape due to the bullet wounds on their bodies, were arrested and taken to the military base," he said.
A Military man who gave his name as Usman Muhammad, while addressing newsmen during their visit to the Owa-Alero Community residence of Mr. Ulakpa Monday, said that the Government has given them matching order to shoot whoever they see parading himself as a Biafran. He therefore informed that Mr. Ulakpa Monday and other wanted persons will be used as deterrent to other biafrans by ensuring that they face the wrath of the law when they are apprehended.
In a brief interview with the parents of Mr. Ulakpa Monday, Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Ulakpa, they passionately appealed to the Soldiers who came for arrest of their son to have mercy on him. They also revealed that Monday has been missing, ever since the incident took place.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Soldiers were visiting the houses of all the wanted persons.
